MMHS DECA at the 2017 NH Career Development Conference

From February 9th - 10th, 2017, 16 Manchester Memorial High School students competed at the State DECA Career Development Conference.  DECA is an international, professional association of high school Business and Marketing students.  It is a co-curricular, student-centered, educational, career and technical organization, which reinforces skills taught in the classroom.  Over 500 DECA members from across the State of New Hampshire competed in several events at the Radisson in Manchester.   Thirteen awards were presented to MMHS DECA members recognizing their achievements in a number of different events.

These events included competency events in which students had to take a 100 question exam and perform impromptu role-plays of challenging business case problems with area business professionals serving as judges.   Also, several Memorial students completed thirty page written projects and presented their findings in fifteen-minute interviews with judges.  The goals of DECA are to develop leadership abilities, social and business etiquette, civic responsibility, ethical behavior in personal and business relationships, and to understand the role of the free enterprise system in a global economy.
